Cotton Valley is a sandstone formation that is located above the Haynesville Shale in East Texas and Western Louisiana. Production in the area began around 1937 and has been sustained over the years as drilling technology has improved. Containing 29 total gas reservoirs, numerous companies have participated in the play that many estimate contains a high amount of undiscovered gas reserves.
