Although it is primarily a gas plan, liquids-rich portions of the widespread Woodford Shale make a profit for some operators, and many hang onto their Woodford properties for their potential in the future when gas prices rise again.

The Woodford-Caney gas play follows the northern edge of the Ouachita Thrust Belt through the Arkoma Basin of eastern Oklahoma and dips south into the Ardmore Basin. The formation offers gas production in the Anadarko Basin near the Oklahoma border with the Texas Panhandle and boasts a liquids-rich zone to the east. ...
