June 24, 2013

Oklahoma City-based Continental Resources Inc. has had several very successful Woodford completions during the second quarter of 2013 including two in Grady County and two in Stephens County, Okla. Devon Energy Corp. also completed four Nemaha Ridge horizontal Woodford exploratory wells from drilled from a common pad in Logan County, Okla.

The Woodford shale is one of several organic shales of late Devonian and early Mississippian age. Where thermally mature, these black shales are hydrocarbon source rocks. The Mississippian-aged Woodford shale in southeastern Oklahoma and is 120-220 feet thick and found between 6,000-20,000 feet.

Continental Resources Inc. completed three new horizontal Woodford wells in the Anadarko Basin in Oklahoma. The #1-15H VanArkel is in Section 15-2n-4w of Stephens County. This well flowed 6.97 million cu. ft. of gas, 908 bbl. of 57-degree-gravity condensate and 1,536 bbl. of water per day. Production is from perforations at 14,731-18,886 ft. after a fracturing. Measured and true vertical depths are 19,100 ft. and 14,352 ft., respectively. Tested on a 38/64-in. choke, the shut-in pressure was 4,020 psi and the casing pressure was 1,800 psi. It’s the first drilling to date in the section. The #1-8H Forrest in Section 8-2n-4w of Stephens County initially flowed 5.75 million cu. ft. of gas, 290 bbl. of 56-degree-gravity condensate and 558 bbl. of water per day. The 18,479-ft. (15,337 ft. true vertical) well produces from fracture-stimulated perforations between 15,730 and 18,448 ft. The 19,240-ft. #1-20H Lang is in Section 20-3n-4w of Garvin County and it produced 6.71 million cu. ft. of gas, 523 bbl. of 58-degree-gravity condensate and 968 bbl. of water per day. Production is from a fractured interval at 14,770-19,116 ft. The well has a north lateral terminating at 19,240 ft. and the true vertical depth is 14,465 ft).

2 XTO Energy Inc.  05/23/13

ExxonMobil subsidiary XTO Energy Inc. has reported preliminary production rates from two new Ardmore Basin wells completions in Carter County, Okla. The #1-1H2R Lumberman is in Section 1-3s-2e and flowed 578 bbl. of 42-degree-gravity oil, 3.16 million cu. ft. of gas and 811 bbl. of water per day. The well was tested on a 33/64-in. choke but pressure results were not available. The horizontal prospect was drilled to 16,703 ft., 11,418 ft. true vertical at a bottomhole in Section 2-3s-2e and was completed in a treated Woodford interval between 11,764 and 16,590 ft. At #4-12H Tyer in Section 12-3s-2e, the venture initially flowed 577 bbl. of 42-degree-gravity oil, 4.43 million cu. ft. of gas and 1,651 bbl. of water per day. Production is from a treated Woodford lateral at 12,245-16,887 ft. The respective measured and true vertical depths are 17,007 ft. and 11,673 ft.

3 Devon Energy Corp.  05/21/13

Devon Energy Corp. has reported preliminary production rates from four Nemaha Ridge horizontal Woodford exploratory wells drilled from a common pad in Logan County, Okla. The #1WH C. Matthews 4-18n-2w is in Section 4-18n-2w and flowed 739 bbl. of oil, 550,000 cu. ft. of gas and 1,582 bbl. of water per day. The 10,387-ft. well has a north lateral extending to a true vertical depth of 5,650 ft. The #1WH C. Matthews 5-18n-2w produced 725 bbl. of oil with 550,000 cu. ft. of gas and 1,499 bbl. of water per day. The venture produces from a parallel lateral extending to a bottomhole in Section 5-18n-2w. The #1WH C. Matthews 9-18n-2w was drilled to a bottomhole in Section 9-18n-2w, and produced 156 bbl. of oil, 60,000 cu. ft. of gas and 924 bbl. of water per day. The #1WH C. Matthews 8-18n-2w flowed 150 bbl. of oil, 60,000 cu. ft. of gas and 950 bbl. of water per day. The projected bottomhole is in Section 8-18n-2w. Oklahoma City-based Devon plans to drill approximately 400 wells in its Nemaha Ridge project and holds about 600,000 net acres in the region, of which approximately 450,000 net acres are outside its joint venture area with Sinopec.

4 Continental Resources Inc.  04/29/13

Oklahoma City-based Continental Resources Inc. completed two horizontal Anadarko Basin Woodford wells in Grady County, Okla. The #1-13H Cosby is in Section 13-3n-5w and produced 8.14 million cu. ft. of gas and 405 bbl. of condensate daily. The 19,635-ft. prospect was drilled south across the section, but additional details are not available. The #1-28H Wooten, Section 28-4n-5w, was tested on a 36/64-in. choke flowing 4.94 million cu. ft. of gas, 281 bbl. of 55-degee-gravity condensate and 821 bbl. of water per day. Production is from a fracture-stimulated lateral at 15,473-19,690 ft. that extends northward. The 19,815 ft.-well had a true vertical depth of 14,945 ft. The new producers are in Oklahoma City-based Continental’s South Central Oklahoma Oil Province (“SCOOP”) project area.

5 Newfield Exploration Co.  04/24/13

Results from two Woodford extended lateral discoveries were announced by Houston-based Newfield Exploration Co. The Anadarko Basin wells are in Stephens County, Okla. According to IHS Inc., #1H-26X Tina is in Section 2-2n-4w, and was comprised of 50% oil/condensate, approximately 835 bbl. of liquids with 6.84 million cu. ft. of gas per day. Average output for the first 30 days online was 666 bbl. of oil and 4.16 million cu. ft. of gas. The well produces from a 10,150-ft. lateral that was projected north to a bottomhole in Section 26-3n-4w of Garvin County. Newfield holds a 99% working interest in the new well, but released few additional drilling details. Four miles to the southwest, #1H-21X Casados, Section 21-2n-4w, produced at an initial peak rate of 10.3 million cu. ft. of gas and 403 bbl. of condensate per day. This prospect has a 6,700-ft. lateral that was expected to terminate to the south in Section 28-2n-4w. Newfield holds a 59% working interest in the well.
