Black Stallion Oil & Gas Inc. will begin a Woodrow Prospect exploration program in Teton County, Mont., in the Alberta Basin Bakken Fairway, the company said July 30.

Industry experts and third-party companies and suppliers will be hired to evaluate and gather data to identify drilling targets on the property.

The Woodrow Prospect is 12,233 acre with shallow-depth oil and natural gas targets.

The Alberta Basin Bakken, spanning from northwest Montana into Alberta, is a significant new Bakken Shale oil play. More than 80% of the Alberta Basin Bakken's production has come from three large fields 12 to 40 miles of the Woodrow Prospect, according to the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), the company said.

The AAPG considers the Alberta Basin Bakken to be an analog to the Devonian Shale. There are 20 feet (ft) to 30 ft of pay compared with the Williston Basin’s 10 ft average. Drilling costs are lower due to shallower depths and different rig class, Black Stallion said.

Black Stallion Oil & Gas Inc. is based in Los Angeles.
