Entek Energy Ltd. said the Cobb 12-7-HA1 well, in the southern part of the Battle Mountain 3-D seismic survey in the Niobrara, reached its intermediate section total depth of 5,962 feet (ft), the company said July 21.

Cobb 12-7’s target measured depth is 9,995 ft, and the well is the first of three scheduled to be drilled and tested in 2015 by private company GRMR, operator of the Battle Mountain area of mutual interest (AMI). Entek has a 20% working interest in the AMI and related leases. GRMR, associated with East Resources Inc., holds the remaining 80% interest.

Cobb 12-7 is a high-angle directional well intersecting naturally fractured fault zones in the Niobrara’s oil-bearing formation.

Casing will be placed before drilling out to the target zone, the company said after intermediate total depth was reached. The McKee 5-16-H1 well and the State 15-8 well will be drilled next in the seismic survey area, the company said. McKee 5-16 is a horizontal well State 15-8 is a vertical well testing a clearly defined structural closure with multiple conventional reservoir targets, and the Niobrara Formation.
