1 Ohio Kentucky Oil Corp., Lexington, Ky., completed a discovery on the Central Kansas Uplift about 4.5 miles northwest of WaKeeney, Kan., in northern Trego County. The #3 Galen Geyer is in Section 13-11s-24w. The wildcat produced an average of 104 bbl. of oil a day in July, although no completion information has been released for the 4,250-ft. test to the Mississippian. The discovery is about 0.75 mile south of W-L Field, which produced 101,000 bbl. of oil before being abandoned in 1975.

2 Seed Group, Wichita, Kan., plans a 3,850-ft. wildcat to target Lansing and Mississippian zones in southern Kansas’ Sedgwick Basin about six miles east of Conway Springs. The #1 Lapted is in Section 33-30s-2w in northern Sumner County, about 1.5 miles west of Anson Field, which has produced 3.59 million bbl. of oil from Lansing-Kansas City since its discovery in 1948. Stuhlsatz Field is two miles northwest.

3 Potoco LLC, Littleton, Colo., plans two wildcats for Mansfield Field near the Mansfield, Ark., area of the Arkoma Basin, reports IHS Inc. The #1-28 Morgan is in Section 28-5n-29w, southern Logan County, and will evaluate Middle Atoka and Hartford to 8,000 ft. The well is about a mile northeast of a noncommercial producer on the eastern edge of Mansfield Field that flowed 10,000 cu. ft. of gas a day before being abandoned. Potoco also plans to drill its 9,100-ft. #1-10 Ware in Section 10-4n-30w, about 0.5 mile southeast of a Mansfield Field extension that flowed 613,000 cu. ft. of gas and two bbl. of water a day during tests. The field has produced 81.1 billion cu. ft. of gas, primarily from Hartford and the shallower Mansfield, since its discovery in 1902.

4 Ross Explorations Inc., Fort Smith, Ark., plans a pair of 9,500-ft. wildcats for the Arkoma Basin about two miles northwest of Havana, Ark. The northern Yell County tests are #1-32 Burrows in Section 32-6n-24w and #1-33 Burrows about 0.25-mile east in Section 33-6n-24w. Both sites are about one mile north of an isolated producer completed in late 2004 on the northern edge of east-west trending Waveland Field. Ross completed Waveland Field’s deepest producer in December 2006 about six miles southwest. There, #1-22 Harger produced unreported amounts of gas from Lower Borum at 8,462 to 8,478 ft. As of July 2006, production from Waveland Field stood at 49.7 billion cu. ft.

5 Marathon Oil Co. completed a deep southern Anadarko Basin discovery about two miles east of Rocky, Okla. The #1-11 Sturgeon is in Section 11-8n-18w in southern Washita County. It was drilled to 20,009 ft. and tested in the Morrow at 17,722-34 ft. Gas flowed at the rate of 2.13 million cu. ft. daily with 15 bbl. of water and an unreported amount of 54-gravity condensate. The site is more than a mile west of the company’s #1-12 Bunch, which was completed in February of 2006. Through June 2007, this discovery produced 347 million cu. ft. of gas.

6 Walter Oil & Gas Corp., Houston, has completed a Woodford shale discovery seven miles east of Madill in southern Oklahoma’s Ardmore Basin. The #1-14 Jay E. Porter, in Section 14-5s-6e, flowed 1.06 million cu. ft. of gas, 36 bbl. of 36-gravity oil and 150 bbl. of water a day during tests of perforations between 5,519 and 7,904 ft. in a northwest lateral. Additional information has not yet been disclosed. The discovery is in a section containing two shallow dry holes (400 to 596 ft.). Cumberland Field is a mile east, and has produced from Sycamore at about 4,050 ft., Woodford at 4,200 ft., Hunton at 4,450 ft. and Upper and Lower Viola at about 4,900 to 5,400 ft.

7 Energen Resources Corp., Birmingham, Ala., plans a Devonian wildcat for the western portion of New Mexico’s Lea County about 20 miles northwest of Lovington. It will drill #1 Hahn in Section 15-14s-33e to a projected depth of 14,000 ft. in an area surrounded by Permian and Pennsylvanian production in Saunders Field. The company completed a Devonian discovery more than three miles south in early 2005, reports IHS Inc. The #1 Saunders Deep State opened Burtner North Field when it tested flowing 563 bbl. of crude a day with a trace of gas and no water. The company’s #2 Saunders Deep State has yielded 18,837 bbl. of crude, 937,000 cu. ft. of gas and 60,110 bbl. of water from the same section.

8 Parallel Petroleum Corp., Midland, Texas, completed a Wolfcamp discovery more than five miles southwest of Hope, N.M., in western Eddy County. The #1Y Hope Unit 1821-16 State tested flowing 404,000 cu. ft. of gas and 77 bbl. of water a day from perforations at 4,440 to 7,412 ft. Flowing tubing pressure was gauged at 350 psi on a 48/64-in. choke. The new producer was drilled in Section 16-18s-21e. Nearest production is in Four Mile Draw Southwest Field about 2.25 miles south. The field, opened by Parallel in April 2006, has produced 3.63 billion cu. ft. of gas, 16,906 bbl. of condensate and 26,031 bbl. of water.

9 Laredo Petroleum Inc., Tulsa, Okla., plans a two-well exploration program for an area 20 to 21 miles southeast of the Canadian River in southeastern Hemphill County (RRC 10), Texas. It will drill #1 Begert Trust 3 in Section 3, Block 41, H&TC Survey, A-159, and two miles north, #1 Tepe Estate 37 in Section 37, Block 41, H&TC Survey, A-176. Stated objectives are Douglas, Tonkawa and Granite Wash, and deeper Pennsylvanian targets through the Morrow. A low-volume discovery is 1.25 miles northeast of the first wildcat. There, #1 Flowers 33 recovered 650 bbl. of oil in its first three months online as part of Hemphill Field. The second wildcat is about 1.5 miles northwest of the aforementioned well and a similar distance west of a mid-2004 discovery that opened Tepe Slavin Field. The #1 B.H. Flowers initially flowed 381,000 cu. ft. of gas and 20 bbl. of 63-gravity condensate a day from Douglas. The well produced 125 million cu. ft. of gas and 900 bbl. of condensate through July. Nearest production from an older Pennsylvanian horizon is 1.75 miles northwest of #1 Tepe at a 1982 discovery that opened Gem-Hemphill field.

10 Scully Energy Corp., Salado, Texas, permitted four southeastern Lampasas County (RRC 7B) wildcats about a mile west of Copperas Cove. The #1 Lee is in the J.M. Bullock Survey, A-1510; #1 Fudge is in the Mary S. Fudge Survey, A-221; #1 Rainey-Brewer is in the GC & SF RR Co. Survey, A-1300; and #1 Taylor is in the HT & B RR Co. Survey, A-1604. All four wildcats are scheduled to reach 1,950 ft. to evaluate the Cisco at 900 ft. Scully completed the only producer to date in Lampasas County about 1.5 miles northeast of #1 Taylor. There, #1 Gotcher opened Toga Field in mid-2006 flowing 193,000 cu. ft. of gas a day through perforations in the Cisco at 894 to 904 ft.

11 Capali Energy LLC, Midland, Texas, plans a remote Lamb County (RRC 8A) wildcat about seven miles east of Littlefield. The #1 Matthews is on the North Basin Platform of the Permian Basin in Section 12, Block 1, R.M. Thomson Survey, A-68. Nearest production is 4.5 miles south-southwest in Anton-Irish Field, which has produced 222.5 million bbl. of crude, 60.8 billion cu. ft. of casinghead gas and 953.9 million bbl. of water since the 1940s.

12 Several discoveries have been made in RRC 7C. Pioneer Natural Resources USA Inc., Dallas, completed a Strawn discovery in the western portion of Reagan County. #1 University 2-14 was tested with an initial daily potential of 178,000 cu. ft. of gas and one bbl. of 56.3-gravity condensate a day. The site is located in Section 14, Block 2, University Lands Survey, about 15 miles west-northwest of Big Lake. Nearest Strawn recovery is 1.67 miles south-southeast in Big Lake Field, which produces oil and gas from the Permian through the Ellenberger.

Pan-American Operating Inc., Dallas, completed a Morris producer in central Runnels County (RRC 7C) about five miles north of Ballinger. The #2A Waller was tested flowing 158 bbl. of 40-gravity oil, 125,000 cu. ft. of gas and 43 bbl. of water a day. The new producer is in the Thomas T. Williamson Survey, A-529.

Star Production Inc., Dallas, completed #2 Niehues in eastern Tom Green County, which was tested flowing 94.5 bbl. of 45-gravity oil and 3,000 cu. ft. of gas a day from perforations in Hope lime at 2,543-49 ft. more than 15 miles southeast of San Angelo. Flowing tubing pressure was gauged at 88 psi on an 11/64-in. choke. The site is in Section 101.5, M.M. Boden Survey, A-4251. Star Light Field is immediately south-southwest, which produced 234,851 bbl. of oil, 59,000 cu. ft. of gas and 69,831 bbl. of water since 2004.

13 Trail Mountain Inc., Artesia, N.M., plans two west Texas wildcats in northern Hudspeth County (RRC 8), reports IHS Inc. The #1 University Drifter C49 is in Section 49, Block C, University Lands Survey. The #1 University Outlaw C47 is 0.33 mile northeast in adjacent Section 47. Both tests are more than 25 miles south of Dell City and 1.5 miles northwest of the company’s first of three Helms discoveries brought online since 2006. The #1 University Sizzler D5 was tested at 140,000 cu. ft. of gas, 1 bbl. of 37.6-gravity oil and 189 bbl. of water a day. More than seven miles north of Trail Mountain’s newest locations, Roswell-based Harvey E. Yates Co. previously scheduled a Hudspeth County wildcat immediately south of the Texas-New Mexico state line. The #1 University Palisade C-11 is in Section 11, Block C, University Lands Survey. It completed a remote New Mexico wildcat in late 2001 about 1.25 miles northwest in southern Otero County. The #1 Bennett Ranch Unit 25 was tested flowing 3 million cu. ft. of gas a day through perforations in the Canyon at 2,255-68 ft.
