The first three Pluto Train 2 modules for the Scarborough gas project have arrived in Karratha, Western Australia, Woodside Energy announced Feb. 21.
Bechtel fabricated the modules in Indonesia, with construction beginning in November 2021.
Together, the three modules weigh more than 4,000 metric tonnes. They are the first three of 51 modules that will be shipped to Karratha for Pluto Train 2, which is the second LNG production train at the existing onshore Pluto LNG facility.
Woodside is developing Scarborough in the Carnarvon Basin with a floating production semisubmersible moored in 950 m water depth near the gas field and eight initial wells. The Scarborough Field will be connected by a 430-km pipeline to Pluto Train 2.
The Scarborough project targets first LNG cargo in 2026 and is expected to reach production of 8 million tonnes per annum (mtpa).
Pluto Train 2 will process gas from the offshore Scarborough development and have an LNG processing capacity of approximately 5 mtpa. Pluto Train 1 will be modified to accommodate lean gas and process up to 3 mtpa from Scarborough.
“With the Scarborough energy project sitting at more than 55% complete, we are making significant progress across all scopes of work and look forward to receiving the remaining modules on site throughout 2024,” Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill said in a press release.
