Fortress Environmental Services opened a new, state-of-the-art saltwater disposal well (SWD) in Waelder, Texas, in the Eagle Ford area. The $9.3 million El Cruce #1 SWD handles 25,000 barrels (Mbbl) of produced saltwater pumped to about 8,000 feet, the company said July 21.

The wellsite lies between Waelder and Gonzales, Texas, on Highway 97 one quarter-mile south of Interstate 10, Fortress said.

Tanker trucking fleets can offload oilfield-produced saltwater from Atascosa, DeWitt, Gonzales, Karnes, Live Oak and Wilson counties, Texas. The SWD facility has four pull-through lanes, rapid 8-minute saltwater pump-outs, 30-minute truck tank washouts and 10-minute fill-ups from an onsite, 50Mbbl freshwater depot.

Runoff water at the SWD site is captured and put through a three-stage filtration system, and 85% of all water is recycled.

Fortress Environmental Services is based in Waelder, Texas.
