UK CBM specialist Island Gas Resources (IGas) is set to carry out workover operations on the first of its three pilot production fields in the UK.
IGas, which runs the licenses with its joint venture partner Nexen, said it would carry out the improvement work on the Doe Green well 1, which is located between Warrington and Widnes. The second well on the site – Doe Green well 2 – has been producing gas for electricity generation for the last 12 months.
Separately, IGas say sit was on track to drill a well at Keele University Science Park in Staffordshire by the end of this year, with gas production set to be sold directly to the university.
Likewise, the company is planning to drill a well at Point of Ayr in North Wales during 2010 in order to demonstrate productivity. An extensive modeling exercise is currently underway on the site.
Looking ahead, IGas says that once the production pilots at the three current locations have been completed in 2010 it would be looking to establish a full production site in 2011.
It says it was continuing to consider possible acquisitions, disposals, farm-ins / farm-outs, data and/or other intellectual capital exchanges, all with a view to further increasing its position within the UK gas market.
The acreage owned by IGas and Nexen is believed to have sufficient resource to generate enough electricity to power more than four million homes for fifteen years.
