Industrial LTE wireless broadband provider Infrastructure Networks Inc. signed a multiyear contract with a large independent E&P company working in the Permian Basin, Infrastructure Networks said April 13. The E&P was not identified.

The contract will be implemented immediately, and services will be provided beginning in 2015’s second quarter.

Infrastructure Networks will provide wireless connectivity in the basin, improving safety, productivity and efficiency. Instant person-to-person and machine-to-machine connectivity, and data sharing on smart devices, will be possible. This way, wells and rigs can be operated more efficiently with less downtime, the company said.

The wireless network is the first open-standards-based network for critical infrastructure, the company added. It currently covers 18,000 square miles in the Permian, and will be expanded this year to 25,000 square miles.

The availability of reliable and secure broadband in the field is a game changer for the oil and natural gas industry, said Carl MacKinnon, executive vice president of sales and marketing at Infrastructure Networks.

Infrastructure Networks Inc. is based in Houston, and has broadband networks in the Bakken, Niobrara, Eagle Ford and Permian, Texas Panhandle region and Kern County, Calif.
