Water treatment solutions company OSP worked with Pioneer Energy Services to apply its 2K7 biocide to mitigate bacterial growth in coiled tubing fluids in the Eagle Ford play, the company said Nov. 2.

Stan Leong, president and CEO of OSP, said microbial influenced corrosion can cause premature failure of coiled tubing units. This happens after biofilms build up and corrosion forms small pits, which lead to cracks and pipe failure; there will be downtime, added costs and safety concerns, Leong added.

The OSP LifeCheck ATP test kit was used to determine levels of total microbial content. Jeremy Luth, OSP business development director, said results can be received in five minutes. It does not react with other fluid additives, he said.

OSP has used LifeCheck and 2K7 products with Canadian coiled tubing providers in the Montney Formation.

Coiled tubing provider Pioneer Energy Services is based in San Antonio.
