LNG supplier Prometheus Energy Group Inc. entered into a master services agreement with WPX Energy Inc. (NYSE: WPX), the company said April 6. Prometheus will supply LNG for WPX’s clean-burning natural gas initiative in its San Juan Basin and Piceance drilling operations.
Prometheus will supply the LNG through its North American network, and will also provide onsite mobile LNG storage, vaporization equipment and technical services.
For the past two years, WPX has utilized field gas, but has moved into acreage where it is not available.
Under the agreement, there will be a 50/50 split between field gas and LNG, Prometheus said.
Jim Aivalis, CEO of Prometheus, said the company led the LNG fueling of natural gas rigs in 2010. Since then, it has supplied 40 rigs with LNG, and drilled more than 1,200 wells using gas from LNG. When it commissioned with WPX, the delivered volume of LNG exceeded 100 million gallons, he added.
Prometheus Energy is based in Houston.
WPX Energy Inc. is based in Tulsa, Okla.
