Saturn Minerals Inc. (TSXV: SMI.V) and Jaguar Resources Inc. (TSXV: JRI.V) began a 2-D seismic program in Saskatchewan’s northern Williston Basin, the company said Oct. 10. Bannock Creek and Little Swan could hold significant light oil reserves, and are owned 50-50 by the companies.

The work began on the Petroleum Exploration Permit 72 in the Bannock Creek area and on Exploration Permit 71 in the Little Swan area, the company added.

Harbinger Exploration Inc. Calgary was retained to complete approvals and mapping. GeoStrata Resources Inc. Calgary was retained to acquire up to 52 kilometers of 2-D proprietary seismic data on the two properties, Saturn Minerals said.

Drilling locations are being finalized, and Jaguar will operate four exploration wells, the company added.

There are two 10-kilometer lines on Bannock Creek and two 32-kilometer lines on Little Swan, but they will have totals of 51 kilometers and 75 kilometers, respectively, the company noted.

The work phase will explore a closed structure at the Red River interval on Bannock Creek, the company added, noting that it compares to fault-bounded Tyvan oil pools, which produce in the same stratigraphic basin.

The company is interested in the Red River’s oil-bearing Yeoman Formation and the Winnipeg Group’s Black Island Formation. Proposed vertical drilling will reach about 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) of estimated total depth (or to the Precambrian) with no horizontal drilling or multistage fracking, Saturn Minerals said. Drilling should take ten days.

Saturn Minerals Inc. is based in Vancouver, British Columbia.
