Torchlight Energy Resources Inc. said May 11 that the first test well in its Orogrande project in Hudspeth County, Texas, reached total depth of 6,109 feet (ft).

The University Rich A11 vertical test well targets the WolfPenn Formation and is the first of four planned test wells in Orogrande, Torchlight said.

Potential zones were logged and sidewall cores were run, and casing was set to 5,990 ft total depth and cemented.

Geologists for Torchlight, including Orgorande project originator Rich Masterson, will analyze results to determine University Rich A11’s horizontal potential and determine appropriate completion methods.

"Although early in the process, we are very encouraged by what we have encountered while drilling," said Willard McAndrew III, COO. "There are many steps left with this exploratory project and we hope to make a discovery here that is both impactful and economical for the Company and shareholders."

Plano, Texas-based Torchlight Energy Resources Inc. operates in the Eagle Ford, Mississippi Lime and Hunton plays.
