Weatherford International Plc (NYSE: WFT) commercially released its TruFrac composite frack plug, the company said March 24. It was released at the 2015 Intervention and Coiled Tubing Association Conference and Exhibition, the company said. The conference was held in The Woodlands, Texas.
The TruFrac plug reduces time on location by maximizing plug-and-perf completions’ efficiency, Weatherford said.
Weatherford manufactures the 97% premium composite blend used in TruFrac plugs.
Mark Hopmann, vice president-completions, said the TruFrac plug’s limited metal content and reduced cutting size make it one of the smoothest and shortest. This provides faster run-in times and reduced mill-out times, and a cleaner well.
TruFrac plugs can be used in environments as hot as 300 degrees Fahrenheit and in pressures up to 10,000 psi. They can be used in single- and multiple-zone stimulations in vertical, deviated, horizontal, or multilateral wells. In horizontal wells, the plug can run in-hole up to 500 ft/min (152 m/min).
Recently, a TruFrac plug reduced mill-out time for an Eagle Ford operator. The time was reduced to 10.5 minutes per plug, on average, vs. the 25 minutes per plug industry average.
To date, the company has successfully deployed more than 12,000 plugs.
