Oklahoma City-based Continental Resources Inc. has had several very successful Woodford completions during the second quarter of 2013 including two in Grady County and two in Stephens County, Okla. Devon Energy Corp. also completed four Nemaha Ridge horizontal Woodford exploratory wells from drilled from a common pad in Logan County, Okla.

The Woodford shale is one of several organic shales of late Devonian and early Mississippian age. Where thermally mature, these black shales are hydrocarbon source rocks. The Mississippian-aged Woodford shale in southeastern Oklahoma and is 120-220 feet thick and found between 6,000-20,000 feet.

1 Continental Resources Inc.  06/20/2013

Continental Resources Inc. completed three new horizontal Woodford wells in the Anadarko Basin in Oklahoma. The #1-15H VanArkel is in Section 15-2n-4w of Stephens County. This well flowed 6.97 million cu. ft. of gas, 908 bbl. of 57-degree-gravity condensate and 1,536 bbl. of water per day. Production is from perforations at 14,731-18,886 ft. after a fracturing. Measured and true vertical depths are 19,100 ft. and 14,352 ft., respectively. Tested on a 38/64-in. choke, the shut-in pressure was 4,020 psi and the casing pressure was 1,800 psi. It’s the first drilling to date in the section. The #1-8H Forrest in Section 8-2n-4w of Stephens County initially flowed 5.75 million cu. ft. of gas, 290 bbl. of 56-degree-gravity condensate and 558 bbl. of water per day. The 18,479-ft. (15,337 ft. true vertical) well produces from fracture-stimulated perforations between 15,730 and 18,448 ft. The 19,240-ft. #1-20H Lang is in Section 20-3n-4w of Garvin County and it produced 6.71 million cu. ft. of gas, 523 bbl. of 58-degree-gravity condensate and 968 bbl. of water per day. Production is from a fractured interval at 14,770-19,116 ft. The well has a north lateral terminating at 19,240 ft. and the true vertical depth is 14,465 ft).

2 XTO Energy Inc.  05/23/13

ExxonMobil subsidiary XTO Energy Inc. has reported preliminary production rates from two new Ardmore Basin wells completions in Carter County, Okla. The #1-1H2R Lumberman is in Section 1-3s-2e and flowed 578 bbl. of 42-degree-gravity oil, 3.16 million cu. ft. of gas and 811 bbl. of water per day. The well was tested on a 33/64-in. choke but pressure results were not available. The horizontal prospect was drilled to 16,703 ft., 11,418 ft. true vertical at a bottomhole in Section 2-3s-2e and was completed in a treated Woodford interval between 11,764 and 16,590 ft.
