Dominion Energy is expanding its renewable energy fleet following the approval of more than a dozen projects by the Virginia State Corporation Commission, the utility said April 1.
Combined, the projects are expected to generate 764 megawatts (MW) of electricity, according to Dominion.
The company will own or acquire four of the solar projects, which have a total capacity of 329 MW. The remaining 435 MW of capacity are independently-owned solar projects that have 13 power purchase agreements in place.
“These projects deliver on our promise of reliable, affordable and increasingly clean energy for our customers,” said Ed Baine, president of Dominion Energy Virginia. “Through our investments in offshore wind, battery storage and solar, Virginia continues to make progress on its clean energy transition.”
Dominion’s projects include the 57-MW Beldale Solar, Powhatan County; the 95-MW Blue Ridge Solar in Pittsylvania County, the 127-MW Bookers Mill Solar in Richmond County, and the 50-MW Michaux Solar in Henry and Pittsylvania counties.
Pending receipt of required local and state permits, construction is expected to be complete by 2026.
The additions when complete will push the company’s approved solar projects in Virginia to more than 4.6 gigawatts, which Dominion said is enough to power more than 1.1 million homes at peak output.
