1 In Hillsdale County, Mich., Savoy Energy LP has applied for a drilling permit targeting Trenton-Black River in southern Michigan. The venture, #1-33 Wallace, is in Section 33-5s-2w, Moscow Township. Plans call for drilling to 4,350 ft. in Glenwood. It’s about one mile north and northeast of Trenton-Black River producers in Albion-Scipio Field. Three miles to the northeast, Savoy has locations staked for two Trenton-Black River exploratory tests. The #1-22 Fitton is in Section 22-5s-2w, and one mile to the south, #1-27 Stoll will be drilled in Section 27-5s-2w. The new projects are projected to 4,400 and 4,350 ft., respectively, and no activity has been reported at either site. Savoy Energy is headquartered in Traverse City, Mich.

2 According to IHS Inc., Savoy Energy LP completed a new producer in Albion-Scipio 6s Field six miles east of Hillsdale, Mich. The well initially produced 176 bbl. of oil and 75,000 cu. ft. of gas per day, with no water. Savoy’s #1-25 Beach is in Section 25-6s-2w, Adams Township, Hillsdale County. Production comes from a treated Black River interval at 4,114-32 ft. and 4,142-54 ft. It was drilled and cased to 4,351 ft., 4,137 ft. true vertical. The reported bottomhole pressure was 1,389 psi. Log tops at the site are Trenton, at 3,635 ft.; Black River, at 3,949 ft.; Black River shale, at 3,966 ft.; and Glenwood, 4,232 ft. The new producer is a northwest offset to Continental Resources Inc.’s #1-36 Lindemann in Section 36-6s-2w, which was completed in mid-2008 initially pumping 39 bbl. of oil and 9 bbl. of water daily from Black River at 3,775-3,942 ft. Between August 2008 and June 2009, #1-36 Lindemann et al produced 6,139 bbl. of oil. Within one mile, Savoy completed #1-36 Clark, a Black River producer in Albion-Scipio 6s Field, in 2008, and plans to horizontally redrill the producer as #1-36 HD1 Clark. No activity has been reported at that site.

3 Land & Natural Resources Development Inc. of Tuscaloosa, Ala., has drilled a Black Warrior Basin wildcat in the eastern portion of Alabama’s Pickens County. The #1 Worldwide-Koon-Hickman 21-7 reached a total depth of 3,635 ft. Located in Section 21-19s-13w, the well is currently waiting on completion tools and 4.5-in. casing is set to 3,610 ft. The company recently recompleted #1 Irvin 5-6 in nearby Section 5, which flowed 273,000 cu. ft. of gas per day through perforations at 5,219-32 ft. in Lewis Sand. The wildcat was deepened to 5,510 ft.

4 According to the Southeastern Oil Review, Ventex Operating Corp. will drill a Smackover wildcat in southwestern Alabama’s Monroe County. The Dallas-based company will drill #2 McKenzie-McKay 36-18 in Section 36-6n-5e, northeast of the discovery well for Lovetts Creek Field. Plans call for drilling the wildcat to 13,600 ft. Nearby production is about two miles southwest at #1 W.E. Broughton. That well produced 54,679 bbl. of crude, 25.31 million cu. ft. of gas and 439,718 bbl. of water from Smackover through 2001.

5 Fairways Exploration and Production of Houston has permitted a wildcat in the southern portion of Conecuh County, Ala. The #1 Warren 21-11 will be drilled in Section 21-4n-11e and is slated to reach a total depth of 12,500 ft. The objective is Smackover. The operator is drilling its #1 Cedar Creek Land & Timber 23-5 two miles northeast in Section 23-4n-11e.

6 Murray Hill Energy of Bridgeport, W.Va., has completed a new producer in Salem Field in West Virginia. The #1 Prickett is in Greenbrier District, Doddridge Quad, in Doddridge County. Drilled to 5,565 ft., the well flowed 474,000 cu. ft. of commingled gas from perforations in Speechley, at 3,639-53 ft.; Bradford, at 4,527-55 ft.; Riley, 4,913-23 ft.; Benson, 5,035-43 ft.; and Alexander, 5,323-5,406 ft.; according to IHS Inc. Big Lime was the only log top reported at 2,100 ft., and additional completion details were not reported.

7 Samson Resources of Tulsa has applied to the Maryland State Department of Environment for Marcellus drilling permits in western Maryland. A spokesperson for the department indicated that state regulators are reviewing applications for the proposed Garrett County program.

8 Chief Oil & Gas LLC has set a 2010 development budget of $325- to $350 million for its Marcellus shale program. The Dallas-based company’s 2010 plans include drilling 70 wells, primarily horizontal. The company has drilled 39 wells to date, with 28 horizontal and 11 vertical. Twenty horizontal wells, primarily in Pennsylvania’s Lycoming, Fayette, or Bradford counties, are waiting on completion and seven horizontal wells are being drilled or remain to be drilled in 2009. Chief has increased its Marcellus leasehold to more than 560,000 acres. After analyzing its research and results, the company has identified at least three key areas for development, including Susquehanna County, Pa., where the company has 15 wells planned for 2010, and will begin testing multiwell completion techniques. Chief Gathering LLC, the midstream subsidiary of Chief Oil & Gas, is completing pipeline infrastructure and securing contracts from third-party producers. Chief Gathering has been operating in the Marcellus since November 2008 and has secured seven interstate pipeline interconnects: two each in Lycoming and Fayette counties, and one each in Bradford, Susquehanna, and Clearfield counties. With gathering systems in place in multiple areas, Chief plans to quickly move wells from production to sales.

9 In Bradford County, Pa., near Wyalusing, Chesapeake Appalachia LLC recovered gas flowing at a maximum rate of 8.9 million cu. ft. per day from a discovery. The #2H Otten is in Asylum Township, Wyalusing Quad. Testing was performed in the 11,160-ft. well from an undisclosed horizontal interval of Marcellus shale. The company has not released any additional information about the wildcat. Chesapeake currently is drilling an 11,216-ft. prospect, #1H Otten, from the same pad and has four other horizontal Marcellus prospects planned at the site. The area is about three miles south of a Chesapeake tight-hole horizontal Marcellus discovery completed in 2008 at #1H Chancellor in the same township. It was drilled and cased to 11,373 ft., but no other details were disclosed. Chesapeake is based in Oklahoma City.

10 According to IHS Inc., Chesapeake Appalachia LLC has a wildcat discovery in Susquehanna County, Pa., near Meshoppen. Chesapeake’s #2H Clapper, in Auburn Township, Auburn Center Quad, flow-tested at a peak rate of 10.1 million cu. ft. of gas per day from an undisclosed horizontal Marcellus interval. The 12,122-ft. well was projected to a true vertical depth of 6,800 ft. but no other production information is currently available. Chesapeake is drilling a second prospect, #4H Clapper, from the same pad and plans to drill four other horizontal Marcellus tests from the pad. Chesapeake acquired Marcellus acreage in 2005 via corporate acquisition. Statoil is a 32.5% partner in the company’s Marcellus program. Chesapeake holds 1.45 million acres in the Marcellus and Statoil holds an additional 625,000 acres. A recent report by Chesapeake indicated that its gross daily Marcellus production reached 100 million cu. ft. of gas daily from about 60 operated wells. Chesapeake, with headquarters in Charleston, W.Va., has about 19 rigs working in the play, with plans for 28 rigs in 2010.

11 EQT Corp., headquartered in Pittsburgh, has reported that one of its Marcellus-targeted wells in Greene County, Pa., produced an average of 9 million cu. ft. of gas equivalent per day for its first 30 days. Although the company did not release any other drilling or completion details, it has the following Greene County wells under way: #590386 Cooper, #590387 Cooper, and #590388 Cooper in Section 6, Rogersville Quad, Morris Township; #590207 Hildebrand and #590219 Hildebrand in Section 1, Mather Quad, Morgan Township; and #590036 Iams D in Section 5 Rogersville Quad, Morris Township.
