Description

Drilling permits have been issued to Enerplus Resources for 14 horizontal wildcats targeting Niobrara and Codell from a common drillpad in the Denver-Julesburg Basin. The Weld County, Colo., ventures will be in Section 19-8n-66w. They will be named after 14,000-ft mountain peaks in the state including Bierstadt; Belford; Conundrum; Evans; Longs; Maroon; Massive; Pikes; Pyramid; Quandary; Sunshine; Torreys; Wetterhorn and Wilson. According to IHS Markit, 10 of the 14 projects will be drilled in Codell, while four will be drilled in Niobrara. Six of the 14 tests will be drilled generally southward to bottom-hole locations in Section 31-8n-66w; while eight will be drilled generally northward to bottom-hole locations in Section 18-8n-66w. Total depths range between 16,990 and 18,425 ft. True vertical depths of the Codell laterals range between 7,296 and 7,425 ft, and the Niobrara laterals range between 7,096 and 7,215 ft. The drillpad is about 1.5 miles north of Black Hollow Field, which produces mainly from Permian Lyons since its discovery in 1967. Enerplus is based in Calgary.
