Southwestern Energy Co. (NYSE: SWN) said Feb. 26 it hired Julian Bott, the former CFO of SandRidge Energy Inc. (NYSE: SD).
Effective March 5, Bott will serve as Southwestern's executive vice president and CFO. Jennifer Stewart, who assumed the position of interim CFO following the departure of the company's former CFO R. Craig Owen in June 2017, will now become senior vice president of government and regulatory affairs.
Bott joins Southwestern from SandRidge, where he served as CFO since 2015. He was recently ousted from his position at the company on Feb. 8 following pressure from activist investor Carl Icahn, who rallied for months against SandRidge's board and management.
Prior to SandRidge, Bott served as CFO at Texas American Resources and 3DMD Technologies. He also previously served as managing partner at Kensington Energy Partners and, earlier in his career, he held executive positions at the Toronto Dominion Bank and Bankers Trust Co., according to Southwestern's press release. Bott holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Harvard University and an MBA from Rice University.
In addition, Southwestern also said Feb. 26 it promoted Michael Hancock to vice president of financial planning and analysis from his previous position of vice president of investor relations.
As a result, Paige Penchas has joined Southwestern to replace Hancock as vice president of investor relations. Penchas has more than 20 years of experience in investor relations, treasury and financial services in the energy industry, according to the company release.
“We welcome Julian and Paige to Southwestern Energy,” Bill Way, president and CEO, said in a statement. “We are fortunate to have the addition of their collective expertise as we reposition the company to accelerate value from our highest return assets, strengthen our balance sheet and enhance our financial performance. I want to thank Jennifer and Michael for their exceptional work and congratulate them on their new roles in the company.”
