Building on its partnerships in the Marcellus shale, Statoil entered the Eagle Ford in 2010 through a 50/50 joint development with Repsol (formerly Talisman Energy). The purchase of Brigham Exploration 2011 solidified the company's position in three of the premium U.S. unconventionals plays. In April 2016, Statoil became the sole operator of the joint development in the Eagle Ford, providing opportunities for further optimization of the development. It has about 71,000 net acres in the play across six counties
